About Us

We get excited about complex projects that intertwine human experience and infrastructure for waterways, urban stormwater drainage, green infrastructure, and recreational settings like parks and greenways.

Experience + Imagination + Expertise

We bring infrastructure, environment, and community together. Our highly collaborative approach to working with community members, our clients, visionary engineers, and respected ecologists is founded on our passionate belief that in the West, water is our most precious resource – and infrastructure design should reflect that value.

Founded in 2010, we are a Denver, Colorado based design firm made up of professional landscape architects and designers practicing in the Rocky Mountain West and Midwest regions. We integrate excellent technical skills with a fundamental understanding of user experience, local ecology, and aesthetics to develop thoughtful, resilient, and sustainable solutions that enhance public and natural realms.

Stream provides specialized landscape architectural design and planning services for public infrastructure projects that include lakeshore and stream restoration (including embankment design, beach and bank stabilization, bio-engineering, and grade control structures), waterway planning and design, green stormwater infrastructure design (water quality and integrated stormwater management), park & open space area design, trails and multi-modal circulation design, and site development design

Our Philosophy

Technically challenging projects are our specialty, but our design philosophy is simple: solutions should perform at a high-level, fulfill multiple functions, and contribute to positive experiences.

Our mission is to help our clients create resilient and functional landscapes that are elegant in their simplicity and pragmatism, cost-effective, and designed to last. We recognize that we are operating in an evolving world where changing climate and increased urbanization continue to apply new pressures on the landscape -we aim to ease those pressures through exceptional design.

Meet the Team

Stream is a small group with big ideas. Our principals and project managers lead a team of passionate landscape architects and designers who want to make a positive impact on their environment and community. Our leadership team has over 80 combined years of experience in landscape architecture, primarily in the Rocky Mountain region and the West. Our group is small enough to be nimble and responsive, yet large enough to efficiently tackle a wide range of large, complex projects.

Jesse Clark

Jesse Clark

Principal

Jesse is the managing partner and founder of Stream. He is a mountain boy at heart having spent his formative years in the Fraser Valley near the headwaters of the Colorado River. After college, he returned to the valley to work (as a ski bum) spending the summers as a heavy machine operator. While ‘pushing dirt around’ with a bulldozer, he found himself fascinated by the design and landform manipulation aspects of the work, and particularly how water moved through the landscape. This curiosity inspired him to seek a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture which ultimately led him back to Denver. With this background, it is no surprise that Jesse’s talents lie in complex problem solving, strategic thinking about how water, land, and humans work together, and in developing technical details that create memorable places. He loves living in Denver because it is a small city with big city amenities – and it has abundant access to get outdoors for activities like hiking, mountain biking, and skiing.

Paul Thomas

Paul Thomas

Principal

Paul likes adventures—whether that’s a bicycle tour of Europe for eight months, skiing at Loveland or A-Basin, or hiking in the foothills. He is also fascinated with landform, especially the dramatic transition from the plains to the foothills that characterizes the Front Range. Paul initially thought he wanted to go into planning, but discovered the creative and hands-on aspects of landscape architecture and has never looked back. Paul especially enjoys the process of conceptualizing a space and bringing that concept to life through engagement with the client.

Kerri Liljegren

Kerri Liljegren

Kerri approached landscape architecture from a different route than most others at Stream. She started as an art history major, with dreams of curating art—but after an internship at a museum, she learned that this was not the path for her. She earned a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota and especially loves getting to design parks. She keeps everyone at the office on-track, and is exceptional at project management, fostering client relationships, and public outreach. Kerri’s secret talent is parallel parking—it’s okay, if you’re feeling jealous.

Nick Piche

Nick Piche

Nicks passion for landscape architecture began on his family farm in Minnesota. It was there that he worked on numerous landscaping and remodeling projects with his family but didnt foster his interest in landscape architecture as a profession until he was an undergraduate at CU-Boulder. He earned his Masters in Landscape Architecture from CU-Denver and appreciates that the field is a blend of architecture, design, and nature. Nicks secret talent is ice fishing, and you might be surprised to know he also has a past in snocross snowmobile racing.

Clarkson Wischmeier

Clarkson Wischmeier

Clarkson (you can call him Clark) is from a small town in Missouri—and he appreciates how kind and welcoming Denverites have been to him over the years. Clark isn’t afraid to try new things. He can tell you stories about teaching English in Vietnam or exploring new hikes, and he loves grass volleyball tournaments. When it comes to working with clients to create unique design solutions or killer graphics to illustrate an idea – Clark is all in. His understanding of construction stems from working in the family hardware store back home, and love of shaping the natural environment around him began with working alongside his mom in the yard. He enjoys the process of working out big ideas from concept through implementation and seeing projects come to fruition.

Erin Hauer

Erin Hauer

Erin enjoys playing the flute, trail running, and watercolor painting to capture landscapes and document native wildlife. Her interest in landscape architecture is rooted in the art & design influences of her upbringing, impassioned by a strong personal sense of environmental agency. For Erin, part of Landscape Architecture and place-making includes finding opportunities to intertwine the cultural significance of local ecosystems into the design and experience of a site. You might find it interesting that she speaks Danish and earned her Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Copenhagen.

Annie Morgan

Annie Morgan

Annie is passionate about being a good steward of the environment, so much so that when she finished her undergraduate degree in environmental and earth science, she returned to school to earn a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from Ohio State University. She applies a holistic approach to solve design problems and believes that by understanding how larger environmental systems work, it is possible to create more successful and connected solutions to each site. Annie makes pottery in her free time (when she’s not snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, or backpacking in places like Iceland).

Kelly Anolin

Kelly Anolin

Kelly might be listening to her favorite music while keeping tabs on the most important aspects of business administration at Stream. She loves attending Denver’s Underground Music Showcase festival every year to hear some of her favorites or learn about new bands. She appreciates Denver’s proximity to the mountains, especially for hiking or snowboarding (especially snowboarding!). One of her favorite trips was to the Philippines for her husband’s family reunion.

Derek Updegrove

Derek Updegrove

Derek sees the intersection of urban space and ecology as ripe for opportunities to connect people to nature. He is always excited to discuss the niches that develop in ecosystems, or the niches that communities of people have developed. He is inspired by the diverse places and diverse people of where he has lived: the maple sugaring forests and salt marshes of the Northeast, the oak savannahs and great lakes in Michigan, the rainforests and 20,000’ mountains of Peru, and now the foothills and shortgrass prairie of the front range. It is his ever-evolving understanding of our seemingly complex, but in-fact so simple connection to our lands that drive his enthusiasm for landscape architecture. His life in Denver outside of the office includes hiking, biking, bouldering, water coloring, pottery, attending concerts, birdwatching, plant identification, playing chess, or whatever has peaked his insatiable curiosity lately.

Daniel Levy

Daniel Levy

Daniel was drawn to landscape architecture through his fascination with art & design, ecological systems, and shared public spaces. Formative childhood years spent between Chicago and Northern New Mexico garnered an appreciation for both dense urban settings and untouched remote locations.  Artistic expression, problem solving query, social justice, and ecological restoration are the tenants of his design approach as well as a collection of defining personal interests. He sees the optimistic future of landscape design and looks forward to pushing the profession towards its wholistic environmental and social potential. Outside of the office Daniel enjoys exploring the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Southwest, biking around town, and playing music with friends.

Keller Oeth

Keller Oeth

Keller recently graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana with his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. For him, landscape architecture is all about being able to combine a love for ecology and nature with placemaking. He is driven by the discovery of our natural world, and how that translates into making space for nature and people to coexist in urban places. Keller’s enthusiasm for nature started as a young kid, so much so that he once wrote a letter to President George Bush urging him to protect forests for deer and other wildlife. Keller wanted to move to the front range from the mid-west because of the region’s affinity for being good stewards of the natural environment and of course, the mountains. In his free time, Keller enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and obsessing over pop culture like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings.

Shaelyn Vering

Shaelyn Vering

Shaelyn has always viewed Landscape Architecture as the perfect intersection of science, problem solving, and art. She is inspired and motivated by the belief that how we craft our built environment has the potential to enrich quality of life – for all kinds of life. She claims that she really doesn’t have a favorite type of project or phase of the design process, because they are all important and come together to knit the fabric of our world, but thinks days spent grading by hand or doing planting plans are always enjoyable. Shaelyn enjoys her bike commute to work every day and afternoons spent in Cheesman Park or the Botanical Gardens. If you ever catch someone shamelessly smelling and taking photos of every flower on the block, it’s probably her!
