Open Space Park, New Creek Channel and Dog Park
Westerly Creek, once buried underground in a culvert as part of the former Lowry Air Force Base’s runway construction, was daylighted to be the centerpiece of this 25-acre open space park that features wildlife habitat, wetlands, walking paths, and a dog park. The new creek channel incorporates bio-engineering (vegetative) stabilization approaches, and includes water quality wetlands that treat stormwater from adjacent roadways. The 5-acre dog park is the largest within the City of Denver and provides separate fenced areas for active dogs and smaller/older dogs, as well as a dog agility training area. It is one of four dog parks in the Denver area designed by Stream principals.
