An Open Space Multi-Use Park on the High Line Canal
Location: Arapahoe County, Colorado
Long’s Pine Grove Park is a new 2.8-acre neighborhood park located in the Four Square Mile neighborhood of Arapahoe County, Colorado. Inspired by spectacular Front-Range mountain views, and a desire to preserve the numerous mature pine trees planted by former residents (the Long family) decades ago, the park also functions as a new trailhead for the High Line Canal Trail. Universally accessible and family-oriented amenities include shaded picnic areas, interpretive ‘pine-cone’ nodes, nature-based play areas, trails, a turf lawn, restrooms, and a terraced overlook that has quickly developed into the neighborhood gathering spot for sunset viewing. Long’s Pine Grove also serves as a model for integrated stormwater management, utilizing green infrastructure strategies and landform to distribute stormwater in a way that passively irrigates the landscape, reduces runoff, and improves overall water quality.
