Parkfield Lake Park

Park Design for Athletic Fields and Amphitheater

Location: Denver, CO

Stream was retained to provide design and planning services for new facilities and management planning for Parkfield Lake Park in northeast Denver. The 35-acre third phase of the park provides a wide range of passive and active recreation opportunities, including a regional-scale athletic complex. The athletic complex features one of Denver Parks’ largest artificial turf sports facilities, including a central football stadium and two soccer fields. It accommodates multiple field events and tournaments and offers a space for drop-in games of soccer, football, lacrosse, and other sports.

Additional park features include open space, trails, a lakeside amphitheater, an interactive water feature, a dog park, picnic areas, natural and artificial turf sports fields, basketball courts, a skate park, and one of Denver’s largest playgrounds. The playground and water feature were inspired by the site’s sand dune geomorphology and incorporate a mix of natural materials and landforms to illustrate natural processes and stimulate interest. A natural drainage system uses site runoff to sustain a naturally irrigated corridor while providing water quality treatment and detention for stormwater.
