Westerly Creek Restoration and Stanley Marketplace Park

Location: Aurora, CO

The Westerly Creek Restoration and Stanley Marketplace Park is the result of a feasibility study and concept design development originally intended for single-function regional water quality facilities and which, through collaboration, has become a multi-beneficial solution that expands regional water quality capacity, restores miles of Westerly Creek, reduces flood hazard areas, and provides significant improvements for future development, parks and recreation, and trail amenities.

The Plan’s recommendations for Westerly Creek include reconfiguration of the channel and corridor resulting in natural stabilization of the stream, ecological restoration and channel improvements, floodplain reconnection, increased connectivity with existing parks and trails, maximized open space, and new opportunities for recreation.

This work was completed in partnership with project sponsors, the City of Aurora and the Mile High Flood District, and through collaboration with private landowners including the Stanley Marketplace and significant mixed use projects on adjacent land. This vision plan established consensus for future site improvements.

The Stream team is currently finalizing construction documents for over $14m in improvements consistent with the vision plan.
