Westerly Creek Restoration and Stanley Marketplace Park
Location: Aurora, CO
The Westerly Creek Restoration and Stanley Marketplace Park is the result of a feasibility study and concept design development originally intended for single-function regional water quality facilities and which, through collaboration, has become a multi-beneficial solution that expands regional water quality capacity, restores miles of Westerly Creek, reduces flood hazard areas, and provides significant improvements for future development, parks and recreation, and trail amenities.
Stream principals have worked in the Westerly Creek Watershed for over 25 years, having led the design of 6 parks and more than 2-1/2 miles of creek, habitat, water quality, and flood resilience improvements. Stream’s most recent project is a collaboration for over $14m in improvements at one of Aurora’s most popular mixed-use destinations, Stanley Marketplace. Our work included reconfiguration of the channel and corridor resulting in natural stabilization of the stream, ecological restoration and channel improvements, floodplain reconnection, increased connectivity with existing parks and trails, new opportunities for recreation, and integrated green infrastructure and water quality. Now under construction, Stanley Marketplace has served as a catalyst for further development along Westerly Creek.
